Well, Jews were always in the Land of Israel. But at times they were
few in numbers, but never absent.

But none has yet. Meanwhile, Israel has had a female prime minister,
and the last disgraced president, Katzav, is an oriental Jew, not
Ashkenazic. The same with Amir Perez, the idiot who was made defense
minister before tthe last war with Hizbollah., And same with Chalutz,
the air force chief who also had to leave as a result.
So the president, defense minister and air force chief were not
Ashkenazim. And all blew it :) It is true that there has not yet
been a Sephardic or Mizrachi prime minister, but it will happen in
time. Just as a non-white will eventually be president of the USA.

This last president who just resigned in disgrace over the female
harassment charges, Katzav. His skin may be white, just as is the
skin of many Arabs, but he is not an Ashkenazi (a Jew from Europe).
