This was the course, and the teacher, that in 1992 promoted not only my
interest in Ancient Egypt, but that of a number of people who formed
the Northern California Chapter of the American Research Center in
Egypt. If you haven't yet taken a class in ancient Egypt, or if you need
a review, you should take this.

Pharaohs, Priests, and Peasants
(3 semester units in Anthropology)
This course is an introductory survey of ancient Egyptian history and
culture. Drawing upon archaeological materials as well as rich literary,
religious, and historical texts, we begin with the pre-dynastic period
and end with the early Roman times. Students study major social and
political events and explore all the facets of everyday Egyptian life.
Delve into famous sites and royal tombs, understand iconography and
funerary beliefs, and consider vast changes in Egyptian civilization
over four millennia.
